I will start by telling you that I am spaceship door gunner qualified. I kid, but I have seen somethings and done some things in my time. Do I think I am an expert?  No. Do I think I have it all nailed down and figured out?  No again. Do I apply what I have experienced and learned to try and improve my circumstances?  Yes.

I have spent a lot of time watching people and seeing how they react to situations. I have allowed this to help me make decisions regarding my preparations for whatever event(s) cause the “Apocalypse”. I have worked along side many different disciplines during real life disasters and absorbed knowledge. I have participated in more drill scenarios with these same folks than I care to remember. I have planned just as many drills to test systems as well.

People are going to people and there is nothing you can do to change that. Under stress, most people stop thinking clearly — and that’s when things get dangerous. Stress turns them into an unpredictable thing. That good, wonderful person you think hung the moon will absolutely surprise you when SHTF.  Their lizard brain will take over and they will think like a different creature.

Example: I have watched how people handle a natural disaster first hand many times, unfortunately. One particular memory stands out to help explain the chaos. When a tornado ripped through a large part of my area people had no clue how to react. I watched a man arrive to the hospital wearing only gym shorts and carrying his favorite picture. He paid zero attention to his wife that walked up behind him wearing only a shorter than she should have been wearing t-shirt. These people came to the hospital because it was the only place lit up that time of night within several miles, not because they needed medical attention.

These two had no plan. They gave no thought to what could be waiting for them at the “well lit” place. Like moths to the flame, they showed up. Having a plan is a start. Learning how to adapt is better. Your initial plan will fail in some form or fashion. Adapt and overcome or succumb to the “zombies”.

I offer advice based on my experiences in the real world and in my career. I have multiple plans and expect parts of each to fail. None of these are perfect but they give me options for sure. I can Bug In or Bug Out and have multiple items to help with that.

There are way too many “experts” out there who are trying to sell items or get clicks. That’s why I created Apocalypse Approved — to help you think clearly, plan realistically, and build preparedness that can actually work when things go sideways. Everything I have listed as gear recommendations are items I put in my kits to help me and mine. If it makes sense and helps you, then that is the goal. Do I want to make something for my time and effort in putting this out there?  Yes. Do what works for you.

Apocalypse Approved exists to share real-world lessons from real disasters — without hype, without fear, and without selling you junk you don’t need. Maybe it makes a wheel turn and gets you thinking about something you didn’t think of yet. Maybe you giggle at it and move on. Do you boo.

I will add more posts to explain my reasoning behind and what experience may have driven my recommendation. This is not gospel by any means. I’ve read The Art of War 16 times. I know a guy who knows a guy and I always do one more for Chesty!  Thanks for stopping by.
